Speeders come up with all sorts of reasons why they are speeding when caught by police – wife having a baby, late for a meeting, trying to get to church. One reason you might want to keep to yourself however is the reason Ryan Neaus, 21, Hazleton gave the officer who pulled him over for speeding – he was chasing the person who just robbed him of his Apple iPhone and three bags of marijuana.

While police were conducting “Buckle Up” – a special grant program to target drivers not using seat belts late Friday night, they stopped a vehicle they said was driving at an extremely high rate of speed and switching lanes without using turn signals.

During the traffic stop, police say they observed a glass bowl used for smoking marijuana on the front seat in plain view. Police also found 15 individually packaged baggies of marijuana and 13 ecstasy pills during a search of the vehicle.

Neaus was charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. He was also cited with careless driving and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Seems as if the police did not have any compassion to the fact that poor Neaus had been robbed of some illegal narcotics. Maybe he should have used the “late to church” excuse instead.

I am increasingly amazed at what people will do to get their “15 minutes of fame.” Stunts are one thing but people capturing themselves committing criminal activities on video and then posting to sites such as YouTube prove just how stupid they really are.

Such is the case for two Domino’s workers who go by the names Michael and Kristy. They video taped themselves passing gas on salami, stuffing cheese up their nostrils and then using the foul fixins’ in the fast food.

The silly-yet-stomach-turning clips — which also showed the workers sneezing and blowing their noses on meals they were handling — were filmed at a Conover, N.C., Domino’s and then posted on YouTube. The pizza delivery giant said it was stunned when the footage surfaced. The pair were promptly terminated.

That’s not all. The Domino’s store where this occurred has filed a criminal complaint against the ex-employees and police issuing a felony warrant for their arrest, according to the BBC. The company also said it plans to file a civil lawsuit against the pranksters.

So, Michael and Kristy, hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame. Now your lives are pretty much over. Dipnoids!

Here are the video clips in question although I don’t know how long they will stay on YouTube before they are removed.

Maine police are very thankful for the video hosting service, YouTube. Seven teens and young adults have been arrested after a video was posted that showed them setting off Molotov cocktails inside a vacated building. They even included credits at the end of the video naming those involved.

Waterville police say the suspects, who range in ages from 14 to 20, broke into in a former Boys and Girls Club through a window. Police seized the YouTube video showing the group making and throwing the devices, which exploded and caused flames as high as 20 feet.

Police say the video, which has since been taken off the video-sharing Web site (sorry – no views) , showed the faces of the suspects as well as text naming those pictured. Each is charged with arson and burglary.

Hopefully the fact that the video was posted on YouTube allowed these dipnoids to enjoy their fifteen minutes of fame before they go off to prison.

A Seattle man who allegedly sank his own yacht because of “financial pressure and frustration with the maintenance” of the vessel has now been charged with insurance fraud.

According to court documents, 50 year-old Brian Lewis on March 22, 2008 sank his own yacht named “the Jubilee” in the Puget Sound Bay, then rowed a borrowed dinghy back to shore. Three days later, Lewis filled an insurance claim with USAA Insurance reporting the Jubilee sank accidentally “due to unknown causes.”

What Mr. Lewis most likely did not expect was when the Washington State Department of Natural Resources decided to salvage the vessel due to environmental concerns at a cost to the state of $2,866. What they discovered was a hole was drilled into the bottom of the yacht and the two main engine sea strainers appeared to have been broken with a hammer.

“The vessel appeared to have been deliberately sunk,” authorities said in their probable cause affidavit.

Confronted by investigators, Mr. Lewis admitted he intentionally sunk his vessel, saying the financial strain “caused him extreme anxiety and frustration.” In an obvious attempt to justify his actions, Mr. Lewis told investigators “the engine trouble he experienced caused him to lose his temper. In his rage, he smashed the sea strainers with a hammer and drilled the hole to sink the vessel.”

Prior to its sinking, the Jubilee had been listed for sale with Mahina Yachts for $28,500.

Now Lewis is out a yacht, will very likely see no insurance money and may even face criminal charges. I’m sure he feels like a real dipnoid.

Canadian police discovered a pot farm in White Rock, B.C. man's house after his 11 month old accidentally dials 911 while playing with a phone. One can only imagine what was to follow.

Babies just love to play with cell phones. I know my grandson does. There are two problems with this however. First of all babies like to put things in their mouth and liquids such as saliva and electronics do no mix. Secondly, they may accidentally place a call.

While the second item is typically not something you’d be concerned about, it became an issue for one man whose 11 month old accidentally dialed 911.

Canadian Mounties recently received a 911 call from a White Rock, B.C. residence but whoever was on the other end of the line hung up. As typical, they decided to investigate and when they arrived at the residence, they entered the home after numerous knocks on the door went unanswered.

“The gentleman was quite surprised,” said White Rock RCMP Const. Janelle Canning.

She said the 29-year-old male, startled by the sudden sight of police, insisted he hadn’t made the call. When it was suggested a child might have dialled, the father objected and said his son was far too young. That’s when police spotted the baby boy, phone in hand.

“We saw him playing with the cordless phone and just pressing all the buttons, so evidently he had called 9-1-1,” Canning said.

With that mystery of the phone call solved, officers began inspecting the residence and soon discovered a 500-plant marijuana grow operation. The father was immediately arrested and the boy was removed from the home by the Ministry of Children and Family Development, though he was later released into his mother’s custody.

The mother does not live in the residence and Canning says she had no idea what was going on at the home.

The next time the father decides to grow marijuana in his home and a baby is around, he should probably give the infant something else to play with.

Walter U. Tessier of Division Street walked into the Price Chopper on Saturday with a lobster in hand saying he wanted to return it because ”it was bad,” Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies said.

Store workers were about to allow him to trade the lobster, which he paid $10.99 for, in exchange for a bag of king crab legs when they discovered the lobster was all shell. Tessier had eaten it and put the shell parts back together, deputies said.

When confronted, Tessier ran from the store with the bag of crab legs in hand, they said. Deputies said they caught up with him at his home only to discover that he had already eaten the crab legs.

Mr. Tessier was charged with petit larceny and given an appearance ticket to return to court at a later date.

A Columbus Ohio man who was carjacked outside a south side restaurant said his friends helped him come up with a plan to outsmart the thieves. Alan Heuss was sitting in his BMW last week with the engine running when a armed man approached him.

Heuss filed a police report and then met his friends to drown his sorrows. One of his friends came up with an idea to contact the thieves.

“He said ‘I’m going to text these guys, I’m going to blow some smoke their way,’” Heuss said. “He said. ‘I’m going to tell them I’ve got a bunch of hot chicks, as if I’m texting you, and that we’ve got some drugs, too.’”

The carjackers took the bait.

“Very early in the morning they gave him the address where they were,” Heuss said. “They were expecting this hot chick to arrive with drugs, and Columbus police officers arrived instead.”

Three men were caught red-handed in the stolen vehicle. Heuss says he expected to get his vehicle out of the impound lot on Friday.

And that he did with a squirt gun filled with fox urine. Now, Scott Wagar is in trouble with the law.

Wagar pleaded not guilty on Wednesday in Kandiyohi County District Court to misdemeanor assault and other charges. He was released on personal recognizance.

According to police, Wagar was on his property Septtember 16 when he used night vision goggles to see 15-20teens running toward his place. He told them to leave, swore at them and when that didn’t work, he sprayed them with the fox urine. He also allegedly struggled with one of the teens.

So who is the stupid dipnoid here? Certainly not the man who had the genius idea of squirting the teens with fox urine. Oh I guess he could have used skunk urine instead. How stupid of him.

It’s common knowledge that if you are going to commit a crime, you want to make sure you actually get away with it. That entails making sure there are no witnesses to the crime itself, especially with regards to video and/or photographs. Another rule probably often overlooked is to make sure the crime committed is not against someone who can very easily expose you to a large audience.

Unfortunately for one New Zealand man, he broke both those rules.

The alleged thief was caught red-handed on camera stealing expensive equipment from a billboard company that has now plastered his image around Aukland, New Zealand’s largest city, seeking his capture.

The unidentified thief was photographed by a suspicious onlooker as he uncoupled 15 electrical transformers used to boost the lighting on a billboard in Auckland. The person taking the photo personally knew the pillaged sign belonged to Mark Venter, who runs OTW Advertising, one of New Zealand’s oldest billboard companies.

So when the photographer offered pictures of the thief in action, Venter decided to mount the images on four city billboards with the inscription: ‘Who is this Thief? Reward $500.’

With no further ado, here is our stupid criminal.
